Dodd Woodworking
Mendon, MA
Dodd Woodworking in Mendon, Mass., began in 1984 with two employees creating custom cabinets for kitchens. Today, it has 40 employees and offers a full range of services from design, to woodworking, to installation, to furniture for every room in the house, including kitchens, baths, studies, offices, and home theaters. "There’s nothing we don’t do," says founder Jim Dodd. And there is no project too large or too small. "High end used to be $650,000, now it’s $7 million," Dodd says. "But if someone wants a vanity for a smaller house, we’ll do it." Beginning with computer-aided drawings, the company works closely with clients, architects, and builders. And it stays with projects through completion. It designs mostly traditional kitchens that are the heart of the home. Many of its projects are in the Massachusetts communities of Boston, Weston, Brookline, Wellesley, and Medfield, but the company has also done work on Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard and in New York. It designed and installed the kitchens for Boston Magazine’s design homes in 2002 and 2004.

MEET THE LEADERS
Jim Dodd began his woodworking career in high school. He went on to work for a company, but was dissatisfied with the quality of its work. "So, I started my own company," says Dodd, of Dodd Woodworking, which he founded in 1984. Today, the company has 40 employees and offers a full range of services. Dodd says its philosophy is, "We want a project to look as nice as if we were putting it in our own house." He adds the company has been successful because of "quality work and doing what we say we will." Anyone can talk it, but you have to walk it and please the people."
