KMarshall Design in South Hamilton, Mass., is known for its innovative and family-friendly design of kitchens and baths and use of custom cabinetry, furniture, tile, and accessories. The firm’s founder, Kathy Marshall, has been commissioned to design kitchens across the country, with styles ranging from traditional in the Northeast to rustic in the Southwest, and in homes valued from $500,000 to $10 million. Realizing kitchens are spaces that have a lot of ``big expectations,’’ she works closely with homeowners on designs that are not only beautiful but functional and respectful of all major issues, including budget. In addition to using unique materials and finishes, Marshall chooses distinctive floor and wall coverings, unusual tile for back splashes, and rugs and runners that make a room special. A strong advocate for the environment, Marshall has traveled the country to find the best ``green’’ kitchen, bath, and construction materials and offers eco-friendly designs and products.

MEET THE LEADERS

Kathy Marshall has been designing kitchens and baths, as well as libraries and studies, for more than 15 years. In 1993, she and her father, Ed MacDonald, founded a successful design firm on the south shore of Boston. She then opened her own firm, KMarshall Design, on the north shore. Marshall’s designs have won many awards, including several from the National Kitchen and Bath Association, and have been featured in national publications. In 2004, KMarshall Design was selected by This Old House to design a kitchen, laundry room, pantry, and home office for a Carlisle, Mass., home being renovated to highlight the television show’s 25th anniversary. In 2006, Marshall was again asked to design the kitchen for a This Old House project in East Boston, Mass.
