Howell Custom Building Group

Stephen Howell’s lifelong passion for architecture and building was formed over childhood summers spent renovating an antique family summer home on Cape Cod. While earning his Electrical Engineering degree at Cornell University, he spent vacations working on framing and finish-carpentry crews building custom homes. In his senior year at Cornell, he met his wife Susan Seligsohn Howell, a psychology major. Steve then spent 12 years honing his project management skills at Hewlett Packard where he designed and built custom automated test systems. At the same time, Susan enjoyed a career in publishing as a Marketing Manager. In 1997, the two decided to merge their common passion for creating beautiful spaces to live in, and their complementary professional experiences, to form Howell Custom Building Group. The goal was to create a company that could offer top-notch professional services, with superior project management and cost estimating, while focusing on building spaces that emphasize the aesthetic use of natural building materials and often incorporate post-and-beam timberframing, one of Steve’s passions. The company has been recognized many times, both locally and nationally, as a leader in their field. Most recently they were awarded a 2008 Contractor of the Year Award, by the Eastern Massachusetts chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry. They are active members of the Builders Association of Greater Boston and the National Association of the Remodeling Industry.
