MEET THE LEADERS
James J. O'Neil III, founder and principal of O’Neil Fine Builders, has been responsible for the construction and management of more than $50 million worth of residential, mixed use, and for-rent projects in Greater Boston for more than 30 years. His expertise extends beyond construction to include major renovation, historic preservation, mill work, finish work and architectural design. The youngest of five children, O’Neil grew up in Wenham, Mass. He graduated from Hamilton-Wenham High School and received a degree in environmental education from Northeastern University. After graduating from college, he began working as a carpenter, specializing in the restoration of historically significant homes on Massachusetts' North Shore. O’Neil started his own construction company (what is now O'Neil Fine Builders) in 1990 and has grown it into a firm responsible for some of the finest homes in the region, and earning more than $3 million in annual revenue. In 2004, O’Neil started the east coast chapter of Sports For The World's Children. This charity collects and donates new and used sporting equipment, and provides sports skills training and mentoring programs, to needy children and communities throughout the world. O’Neil lives in Essex, Mass., with his wife, Michelle, and their four sons, Paul, Daniel, Joseph and Lucas. He enjoys golf, skiing, gardening, exercising, boating, as well as volunteering his time as a coach for local youth sports.
