Fast-Growing Shade Trees

Have you considered planting shade trees in your yard, but don’t want to wait decades to see the fruits of your labor? This Old House has put together a list of fast-growing shade trees that will not only add shade to the yard, but will add to the overall aesthetic appeal of the yard. Instead of fast-growing trees like the princess tree, which has gained a reputation as “the worst sort of weed,” consider the classic northern red oak, a deciduous tree which can grow to 50 feet high and creates a large shade canopy underneath. Or, if you are looking for something a bit different, consider the Freeman maple, a hybrid tree with red-orange fall colors that grows to be 75-80 feet high, and has a variety known as “Autumn blaze,” which is very fast-growing. In just five or six years, you could be sitting under the shade of one of these trees. To continue reading about fast-growing shade trees, click here.
